  It was December 2015, real winter, accommodation prices were strongly reduced, I needed a place for 6 weeks to prepare for a course, I arrived in Barcelona, went first to have to have cup of tea at Starbucks cafe in la Rambla, while I was using the laptop, my suitcase was stolen, with all the course materials, books, cloths,....a value of 3000,- euro.

  I suppose if it were cheaper than anything else around there could be a reason for staying there, but it was actually €1 more than the excellent San Miguel, and without breakfast, view, etc. etc. AVOID unless you want to raise hell, unmindful of other guests, and not have anyone stop you.

  Admite animales teniendo moqueta en el salón lo cual no es lo más apto para la limpieza. Te cobra por adelantado en efectivo y no te da factura. Lo declarara?

  I arrived at the hostel in the evening, did not see any guest, there was a man from the personal, I told him I need a single room, he said 25,- euros per night, I told him this is expensive, I stayed at a nice hotel in Alicante for 25,- euros, then he said in a rude and impolite manner : ( Okay... go back to Alicante).

  Despite the address, it's not on "la mar" (seafront) at all, but on a street or two behind - THE busy coastal road, and along the tram line.

  It was relatively clean, though the sheets smelled musty, like they hadn't been dried properly and got mildew. My room looked out into a cramped air well, and there was a pair of dirty child's underwear on my window sill. I couldn't open the curtains because there was no privacy (a room full of surly youths right across from me, watching TV and smoking with their door open).

  The owner was unhelpful, condescending, and totally unsympathetic about the noise - acting like it was all my problem, and even like I was some ridiculous, unreasonable person. When I wanted to leave after one night, he refused to refund my money until he got another booking - something I've never experienced before. Since he only got a booking for two nights, I had to eat the cost of the third - but did so gladly since it meant getting the hell out of there.

  It was 10:30 in the evening, cold and rain, I stayed that night at hotel Golden in the heart of La Rambla for only 20,- euros, the day after I stayed at hotel in the heart of center in Alicante for 25,- euros per night.

  Avoid unless you like not be able to sleep because of NOISE, and like places full of people partying, watching TV, listening to music, laughing, slamming doors, shouting etc. until 3am.... then starting again at 4am.... then being woken up by the trams when they start running early in the morning, and by the owner's family!

  Then I went to Altea, it was very quiet, no tourists that time of the year, I expected it will be much cheaper than hotel Golden in Barcelona, maximum 15,- euros per night, also because I wanted to stay 6 weeks.
